Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Doctor of Sociology brought about a revolution in the hygiene in India through his Indian NGO Sulabh International. Dr. Pathak invented toilets that required less water as compared to the conventional ones which emancipated the scavengers and also led to prevention of numerous diseases and pollution.
Sulabh builds complexes that provide both bathing as well as toilet facilities for a nominal fee. Around 8000 community toilets have been already built by Sulabh in India through partnerships between local authorities, NGOs and the local population.
Veolia India has been managing the drinking water production and distribution of Nangloi, a district with one million population in the west of New Delhi. As Veolia is committed for the sustainable development of the area where they operate, through the Veolia Foundation it has financed the construction of 5 toilet complexes in the Nangloi area.
On February 15, 2016 two toilet complexes were inaugurated in Udyog Nagar and Nangloi Metro Station in the presence of Patrick Rousseau, CEO & Managing Director, Veolia India on behalf of the Veolia Foundation and Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder, Sulabh Sanitation Social Reform Movement.
