Veolia ranks 2nd in the 2019 Multi and Water Utilities sector Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI)

Included in the DJSI for the 3rd consecutive year, Veolia is ranked 2nd among the 41 companies in the Multi and Water Utilities sector. Recognition of the Group's leadership in sustainable development.

The DJSI, based on the RobecoSAM assessment, evaluates companies’ sustainable practices. Companies in 61 sectors are screened annually on the basis of more than 600 indicators. The best performers are selected on the basis of economic, environmental, social and societal criteria. These companies are thus recognized as being in the best position to manage and anticipate sustainable development challenges and opportunities.

This 2nd place in the DJSI in 2019 is a real recognition of the ongoing commitment of Veolia and its employees to environmental, social and societal responsibility. This commitment is now included in the Group’s “Purpose”, which was approved at its general meeting on 18 April. Veolia first joined the DJSI in 2017.

Only 10% of the world's largest companies are selected in each sector: in 2019 in Multi and Water Utilities 5 were selected in the DJSI World and 4 in the DJSI Europe.

New criteria in 2019

The DJSI is a joint initiative of the S&P Dow Jones Indices, a global database for financial markets, and RobecoSAM, a specialist in sustainable investments and pioneer in the use of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria.

RobecoSAM compiles one of the most comprehensive sustainable development databases based on its annual ESG analysis – the Corporate Sustainability Assessment, CSA - of more than 4,700 publicly traded companies. In 2019, its "information security, cybersecurity and IT system availability" and "privacy protection" criteria were strengthened in its CSA because of their growing importance to investors.
